The Gold Hill City Council adopted Resolution 26-R-03 to continue extending workers'compensation coverage to designated volunteers, including elected officials performing administrative duties, the city's staff told the council.
Staff explained the city's insurer required updated language clarifying which volunteers are covered. Under the resolution, designated volunteers who are injured while performing administrative duties are covered under the city's workers'compensation policy (which covers wages at a minimum-wage calculation), while other volunteers are covered by a separate accident policy that pays for injury but not wages.
Councilors asked whether removing elected officials from workers'compensation coverage would save the city money; staff said the savings were likely small and that they would provide specific cost figures before the next policy renewal. One councilor said the difference mattered if the city could reduce premium exposure from a larger workers'comp claim.
A councilor moved to adopt the resolution and the council approved it by roll call.
