Properties Committee backs janitorial, incinerator maintenance and surplus sales for recommendation to full board

The Lapeer County Properties Committee on April 2 recommended that the full Board of Commissioners approve several facility-related actions, including a pending janitorial contract for the Community Mental Health West Building, a preventative-maintenance inspection on the animal-control incinerator to preserve its warranty, and authorization to sell surplus county items at public auction.

JT Anderson, Building & Grounds/Parks Director, reviewed bids for janitorial services for the CMH West Building at 1505 Suncrest Drive and said the committee would recommend proceeding with RWK Services, Inc. for a one-year contract at a monthly cost of $2,050.65. Anderson said the cost is to be paid from CMH funding and that the recommendation is contingent on approval by the CMH Board that evening.

Anderson also explained that a comprehensive preventative-maintenance inspection on the animal-control incinerator is required to keep the warranty and that Burnz-well, Inc. had been identified to perform the work. The committee recommended authorizing the inspection at a cost not to exceed $4,750.00 to be charged to line 225-431-977.000.

On the subject of surplus property, Anderson presented an itemized list of county items proposed for the spring online auction. Committee member Ian Kempf requested that a cooler at the Lamb Steel Building be included on the list. The committee moved to authorize Building & Grounds/Parks Director to sell items no longer needed by various county departments at public auction.

Each of the recommendations was forwarded to the full board by motion from Ian Kempf, supported by Kevin Knisely; minutes record each motion as “carried.” The janitorial award remains subject to separate approval by the Community Mental Health Board.
