Committee recommends purchase of sheriff transport van, upfit and camera system

The Lapeer County Properties Committee on March 12 recommended that the Full Board approve a procurement package for the Sheriff’s Office to replace a transport vehicle.
Deputy Eric Kanyak of the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office described vendor outreach and specifications and said Milnes provided a lower quote. He told the committee that several Ford dealerships, including Imlay City Ford and Lasco Ford, did not return multiple follow-up calls and emails, and that dealerships are increasingly including delivery and dealer fees in their government pricing, which affected comparative pricing.
The motion, made by Commissioner Kevin Knisely and supported by Commissioner Ian Kempf, would authorize purchase of a 2026 Ford Transit van from Milnes for up to $54,365; upfitting and equipment from Arrowhead Upfitters Inc. at $32,877; a Motorola Solutions Inc. M500 vehicle camera/video system at $9,133.20; and vehicle graphics from Mediaskapes at $56.60. The total project cost is not to exceed $100,000, which includes $3,568.20 set aside as contingency, and is to be paid from line 207-301-977.000 with no additional cost to the County’s General Fund. The motion carried.
Committee members discussed ensuring vehicle specifications would be compatible with the County Complex sally port and noted the committee referenced Oakland County bid specifications as a pricing comparator. The recommendation now moves to the Full Board for final approval.
