Lisa Cronin, CEO of Common Ground, told the appropriations committee the nonprofit has operated in the Cedar Grove area for more than 30 years and that parish support has helped sustain programs focused on families and youth.
Cronin said the youth program serves about 45 boys year‑round, uses basketball as a recruitment and engagement tool, and emphasizes work ethic, accountability and improved school attendance. She highlighted volunteer coaches who grew up in the neighborhood and return as mentors, and said Common Ground provides free summer camp, a food pantry organized for dignity of choice, and transportation that donors and the commission help fund.
Commission members praised the program for its consistency and community roots and discussed possible facility partnerships and additional gym space to support the program’s growth. Cronin provided a work phone and an email contact for volunteers and donations.
