EFCC approves $35,000 to complete Glass Hill detection camera, citing tactical benefit

The Emergency Fire Cost Committee voted June 2 to release roughly $35,000 in remaining Northeast Oregon strategic-investment funds to finish a Glass Hill detection camera site, a site staff described as a tactically important "bonus" camera that can be operational this summer.
Justin Lauer and Jamie Paul described the camera as largely funded from multiple sources and said the $30,00026ndash;$35,000 requested would finish the site. "Because it's a cobbled together bonus camera site, the $30,000 really will finish it off and...it would be up this summer, in a very tactically important site location," Jamie Paul said. The committee discussed whether to hold funds for a statewide solicitation versus immediately deploying the surplus; members noted the committee is moving toward clearer strategic-investment policies and potential statewide solicitations funded by interest accruing to the OFLPF.
John (speaker 14) moved to release the funds and the committee approved the motion after recorded "aye" responses. Chair asked staff to strengthen future decision materials to show how small strategic investments fit into district and statewide planning. The committee's vote followed staff assurances that site agreements were already in place and the camera would improve early detection in a coverage gap.
The funding decision will allow the Glass Hill site to be completed this summer; staff said they will continue developing clearer strategic-investment procedures for future requests.
