At its June 25 meeting, the Lapeer County Properties Committee heard presentations on capital budget needs and Drain Commission plans and asked staff for additional detail before taking action.
CFO Jacky Bennett outlined capital budget requests and highlighted infrastructure concerns at county facilities, noting that some projects will require multi‑year planning. Bennett specifically referenced upgrades needed at the sheriff’s department and aging systems at General Squier.
Drain Commissioner Andy Wager described goals for creating a Drain Commission building and hiring a crew. Wager described an offered parcel of land and a lease option on Road Commission property and discussed contractor regulations he says would allow the commission to reduce contractor costs. Wager was asked to continue exploring options and to return with more detail for committee consideration.
Committee members also revisited earlier discussion about the county car fleet and requested additional information on take‑home vehicle requests and associated costs.
