The Lapeer County Properties Committee on June 25 agreed to resume a vehicle‑purchasing process for the Friend of the Court office that, according to county staff, carries partial state reimbursement.
Friend of the Court representatives Ryan Fitzpatrick and Deputy Jamie Podoba described the program’s history and recommended restarting it. Support Services Office Manager Jillian Clark provided background on the county fleet and coordination between departments to manage vehicles.
Podoba told the committee that vehicle purchases through the process are reimbursed by the state at a rate of about 66 percent and that vehicles typically are depreciated for five years before being transferred to the county fleet for ongoing use. Committee members discussed the type of vehicle needed and upfitting requirements such as cages.
Committee members agreed to move forward with pursuing the process; no formal motion was recorded at the committee level. The committee requested staff follow up with details on vehicle types, upfitting costs and the timetable for purchases.
The committee continued on to other agenda items and adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
