Cumru asks zoning officer to review contentious kennel application after inconsistent filings

Cumru commissioners asked the township’s zoning officer to prepare a formal zoning determination and to present testimony to the zoning hearing board regarding a pending kennel application that the planning commission found inconsistent.
Staff and planning‑commission representatives told the board that the application materials submitted to Cumru and to neighboring Brecknock Township contained contradictory information on the location of the kennel and whether the use would be commercial (breeding and sales) or private. Planning commissioners recommended the township oppose the requested relief based on those inconsistencies.
Commissioners authorized the zoning officer to review the submitted survey and application materials, issue a zoning determination letter and appear at the zoning hearing to explain the township’s position and any factual findings about location and zoning compliance. The board’s motion was approved by voice vote.
