Council authorizes GameDay law-enforcement contract for 2026–27 season

The Auburn City Council on July 21 approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to execute game-day contracts with the Auburn GameDay Law Enforcement Corporation and participating public-safety agencies to provide supplemental public-safety services for Auburn University events from August 1, 2026, through July 31, 2027.

Council discussion emphasized the practical need for the agreement. A council member who asked for brief comments said the agreement is the vehicle that enables the city to bring in assisting agencies from Lee County and the City of Montgomery for large events. "If you have ever attended one of our football games... this is the agreement that makes that happen," the council member said, noting staff reported the number of events requiring officers under this agreement was "at least 150" last year (staff clarified the number was not exact). Legal counsel Paul Clark explained the GameDay Corporation was authorized by a council resolution in 2006 and functions as a supplement to the city-university policing agreement — in particular, it provides the workers' compensation vehicle and governs reimbursements when outside agencies assist at university events.

Council members asked who the parties are; staff said the parties include Auburn University, the City of Auburn and the GameDay Corporation, and noted officers are drawn from the three jurisdictions during high-demand events. After discussion on the importance of having the contract in place for upcoming events and concerts, council approved the resolution by voice vote.

What this means: The contract ensures a framework for staffing and reimbursements when outside agencies support university events; separate ongoing contract work was described to renew the primary university-city agreement, with this GameDay contract operating as a supplement for event staffing.
