Planning staff recounted a multi‑meeting Planning Board process that began in 2023 to address impacts from high‑energy, noisy, or waste‑producing facilities. The adopted amendment adds a definition for "data centers" and applies the existing supplemental standards and permitted locations in the Land Development Code to both cryptocurrency mining and data center facilities. The Planning Board reviewed the text on June 18, 2026, and sent a unanimous favorable recommendation.
There was no public comment at the hearing. Commissioner Sheila Franklin made the motion to approve TX-2026-01, which passed unanimously.
