Riverton board approves multiple staffing actions, supplemental coaching contracts and a contested hire

At its May 14 meeting the Unified School District No. 404 Board of Education approved a slate of personnel and extracurricular staffing items for 2026-27.
The board accepted resignations for Ted Daniel (custodian, effective April 19, 2026), Michelle Sellars and Jeff Warstler (both listed as junior class sponsors). The board approved multiple high school and middle school supplemental contracts across fall and winter sports; the approval listed head and assistant coaches for football, volleyball, cross country, boys and girls basketball, cheer and middle-school teams.
In a separate personnel vote the board approved hiring Justin McKee as Strength and Conditioning teacher, summer weights instructor, powerlifting coach, before/after school weights instructor and head track coach for 2026-27. Keeley Adams moved to hire McKee; Jeff Coleman seconded. The vote was recorded as 6 yes and 1 abstain (Kyle Anderson abstained); the motion carried.
The board also approved FMLA requests as presented, named elementary and high-school mentor teachers for 2026-27, and approved Jump Start personnel with an operational limit of no more than two staff working at a time during the program. All other personnel motions were recorded as carried unanimously.
The board’s actions complete routine hiring and extracurricular assignments ahead of the 2026-27 school year.
