Council OKs one-way designation, parking ban for Nebraska Avenue in Railroad Square

Council approved on first reading ordinance No. 2026-2351 to prohibit parking and designate Nebraska Avenue between Adams Street and Grand Boulevard as one-way westbound to align with the Railroad Square redevelopment.
Staff explained the change narrows the travelway, improves pedestrian safety in the newly renovated district and will include signage and enforcement. The ordinance specifically prohibits parking, standing or idling of any vehicles (including golf carts and mobile food trucks) on that stretch and establishes one-way westbound flow for public-safety reasons.
Council members and staff noted alternatives for deliveries via Adams Street or adjacent public parking and discussed golf-cart parking accommodations on the west side of the Verizon building and in public lots. The city attorney reviewed the ordinance as to form and staff confirmed there is no budget impact.
Council approved the ordinance and staff said implementation steps will include sign installation and public notification to affected businesses and residents.
