At its Dec. 9 meeting, the Waukesha City Ordinance and Licensing Committee recommended approval of a conditional liquor-license recommendation for Waukesha Skateland and approved nine rooming-house renewals while noting the Lucky Liquor application was withdrawn.
Attorney Timothy J. Andringa appeared for Waukesha Skateland and told the committee the applicant planned to hold one evening a month when alcohol would be served to adults on designated dates and that the establishment would not have minors in the licensed area at those times. Staff reported a Department of Revenue contact said that the DOR’s interpretation would allow designation of dates and that, in some cases, multiple days could be permitted. The remaining requirement was that the agent/owners complete responsible beverage server training and provide certificates.
Committee member Alicia moved to recommend approval to the Common Council on the condition that responsible-beverage-server certificates be presented and that the clerk not issue the license until training certificates were provided; the motion was seconded and recorded as approved unanimously. The committee asked that the Police Department be notified for the special-event dates as part of the permit process.
Separately, nine rooming-house renewal applications that had passed building inspections were moved and approved in a single motion after committee members named each property on the record. The Lucky Liquor class A application was withdrawn because the applicant could not locate a qualifying county-based agent.
Why it matters: The Skateland recommendation implements DOR guidance while using the training requirement and police notification to limit risk to minors and ensure local response; the rooming-house approvals clear annual licensing requirements for multiple small rental properties. Next steps: Skateland's license will be issued by the clerk only after the training certificates are submitted and police notification procedures are completed; Fisk Avenue LLC and other absent applicants remain on future agendas.
