Arma Rondon, Rancho Palos Verdes city manager, said the council unanimously approved placing a local funding measure on the Nov. 3 general municipal election ballot to prepare for future landslides and to maintain essential city services.
If approved by voters, the measure would raise the city’s transient occupancy tax (TOT) by 3 percentage points, paid by hotel and motel guests, and would provide locally controlled revenue the city could use for public safety patrols, emergency preparedness and street maintenance. Rondon said the revenue "can't be taken by Los Angeles County or the state."
The council’s vote followed feedback from a recent community needs follow-up survey, according to Rondon. The transcript does not include ballot language, estimated annual revenue from the TOT increase, or the names of council members who made or seconded the motion; the city manager characterized the vote as unanimous.
More information and official materials are available on the city's website and on RPVTV and the city's YouTube channel, Rondon said.
"Let's stay connected, and remember, we are RPV together," she added.
City staff will publish ballot materials and any analyses required by law; the transcript does not include those documents or a revenue estimate.
