APS sets State of the District for Aug. 31 with student emcee and watch parties

Albuquerque Public Schools staff told the Community Engagement Committee on July 21 that the district’s State of the District will take place Monday, Aug. 31 at Bernafacio, featuring student entertainment, a student emcee, and a superintendent address followed by a panel of local education leaders.
“State of the District will be held on Monday, August 31 at Bernafacio,” Joanna King, chief of communications, said. She said doors will open early (she cited about 3:30 p.m.) to allow student performances and that the district will livestream the event for wider access.
King said the district will invite a recent APS graduate to speak and asked the board president to provide a welcome. The superintendent, Dr. Duran Blakey, is scheduled to deliver the district address; staff plan a concluding panel discussion with local education leaders.
Communications staff will share an Excel-based VIP list with board members so they can track invitations and help recruit attendees. The district encouraged schools to host watch parties so school communities can view the address together if they cannot attend in person.
King said the communications team will send invitations after the start of the school year and will provide board members with packets and the VIP list to coordinate outreach.
