Heritage Pines board approves $19,200 pond-algae contract with Premier Lakes

At its Oct. 15 regular meeting, the Heritage Pines Community Development District Board of Supervisors approved a $19,200 annual contract with Premier Lakes, Inc. for pond algae treatment and moved to terminate the existing SOLitude agreement.
District Manager Chuck Adams presented the Premier Lakes proposal, saying it represents an overall annual cost savings of about $3,200 compared with the SOLitude contract. Adams said he would initiate SOLitude's 30-day termination clause so SOLitude's services end on Nov. 30, 2024, and Premier Lakes would commence service on Dec. 1, 2024. "A copper-based product is used to target algae," Adams said, adding that the odor residents notice is from degasification of the algae and typically lasts a couple of days.
Supervisor Michael Walsh moved to approve the Premier Lakes proposal and Supervisor Carol Vaughan seconded. The motion carried with all supervisors voting in favor: Chair Kathleen Lonergan, Vice Chair Arthur Rhodes, and Supervisors Vaughan, Janice Benedetti and Walsh.
At the same meeting the board accepted the unaudited financial statements as of Aug. 31, 2024. Adams told the board the General Fund surplus funds will be placed in a BankUnited Insured Cash Sweep (ICS) account. Supervisor Walsh asked whether SOLitude could be asked to compensate the district for perceived poor performance; Adams said he would contact SOLitude and believed it reasonable to seek 50% responsibility but did not record any agreed settlement.
The board also approved the Sept. 17, 2024 regular meeting minutes as amended, and on a separate motion the meeting was adjourned at 2:41 p.m.
