Village officials told the Parks and Recreation Board on Dec. 2 that the community garden purchase from the township has closed and the property is now a Village park.
Village President Steve Graziano said the purchase cost the village $25,000. Village Manager Dan Faulkner reported the village received a $12,500 grant from AEP to support the community garden and said negotiations with AEP over relocation of the power lines have not been finalized.
Board members did not take a formal vote recorded in the minutes on garden programming at this meeting; the discussion centered on funding, the grant from AEP and the outstanding utility relocation negotiations needed before final site work proceeds.
The community garden acquisition gives the village ownership of the site and a potential location for future garden programming once utility issues are resolved.
