Representatives from Main Street told the city commission May 4 that a South Main Street Committee, formed about six months ago of local building and business owners, is working with city staff on revitalization and safety improvements.
Main Street asked the city to address a lane-merge safety concern on South Main with clearer signage, requested the same level of street beautification found on North Main (planters, benches, trash receptacles) and proposed a new welcome sign; a landowner at the South Main location indicated willingness to assist with the sign.
Staff confirmed Main Street received a state ROOMS grant Jan. 30 that was used as part of the capital stack to purchase the Masonic Building (124 South Main). Main Street also described an expanded veteran-banner program (102 banners) and plans to participate in the July 4, 250th-anniversary parade, exploring options including pole installation or renting a video-billboard truck at a discounted rate.
Main Street previewed its Hot Shot Golf Challenge fundraiser scheduled for June 13, 2026, describing marketing efforts (social posts and paid ads), a 200-player goal, and prize structures that include high-value hole-in-one and putting prizes and insured payouts for selected challenges.
Separately, the El Dorado Municipal Band board president said the band enters its 104th consecutive season, with the first practice on May 28 and June 2 at Butler Community College’s 700 Building and a first concert scheduled for June 4 at the Band Shell, weather permitting.
Commissioners thanked presenters and asked staff follow up on safety signage and partnership opportunities.
