Dawson County board approves Eagle Scout park project, property MOU, bridge repair funding waiver and salary increases

The Dawson County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved several administrative items Aug. 7: an Eagle Scout project to place bat boxes at Rock Creek Park, an MOU with the Development Authority of Dawson County for property disposition, a purchasing-policy waiver and $52,019.52 in SPLOST VII funds for Kelly Bridge Road bridge repairs, and salary adjustments for the county manager and county clerk.
At its Aug. 7 voting session the Dawson County Board of Commissioners approved a set of administrative and capital-related items, all by recorded unanimous votes.
The board approved an Eagle Scout project proposed by Eagle Scout hopeful Justin Clark to place bat boxes at Rock Creek Park. The board also approved a memorandum of understanding with the Development Authority of Dawson County (DADC) regarding disposition of certain real property off Burt Creek Road; Jere Allen, chairman of the DADC, thanked the board after the motion passed.
Separately, the board waived the county purchasing policy for the repair of the Kelly Bridge Road bridge, authorized a sealed solicitation exception that will include a one-year performance bond, and approved using Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST VII) funds in the amount of $52,019.52 for the project. The motion recorded the use of SPLOST VII funds and the procurement waiver; the vote was recorded as 4-0.
On personnel matters the board approved a resolution to modify County Manager Joey Leverette’s annual salary to $195,000 and approved increasing the county clerk portion of the County Clerk/Executive Assistant to the County Manager Kristen Cloud’s annual salary by $5,000. Motions for these items were passed 4-0.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved minutes from July 17 (work session and voting session) and approved the agenda with the removal of a New Business item related to an Emergency FY 2026 subcontractor agreement. There was no public comment recorded during the voting session. The meeting adjourned after the listed actions.
