Cudahy council adopts new city code, approves Motorola dispatch upgrade and other routine measures

The Common Council adopted Ordinance No. 2430 recodifying the city code, approved a $212,739 Motorola contract to upgrade the dispatch center, approved temporary liquor licenses and several departmental purchases and appointments, and passed two claims resolutions.
At its June 28 meeting the Common Council of the City of Cudahy adopted Ordinance No. 2430, a recodification of the city code, and approved a package of contracts, licenses and appointments including a dispatch-center upgrade with Motorola Solutions, Inc.
MOTION BY ALD. JOHNSON, SECOND BY ALD. ST. MARIE-BOELKOW carried unanimously to adopt Ordinance No. 2430, which enacts a new city code and provides the procedure for future amendments. Alderperson Hollenbeck left the meeting shortly after that vote.
The council also approved a contract with Motorola Solutions, Inc. to upgrade the city’s dispatch center for $212,739.00 (MOTION BY ALD. ST. MARIE-BOELKOW, SECOND BY ALD. JOHNSON; roll call vote carried unanimously). Other approvals included sale of surplus Fire Department thermal imaging equipment, purchase of outdated SCBA equipment for $4,545.00, and a Preparedness and Health and Safety Service Agreement with the American Red Cross at the request of the Public Health Officer; motions for these items were recorded as carrying unanimously.
The council approved temporary Class B liquor licenses and fee waivers for Cudahy Lions Club events (July 4 and Sweet Applewood Festival). That vote passed with Alderpersons Moralez, Johnson and St. Marie-Boelkow voting aye and Alderpersons Hollenbeck and Litkowiec recorded as abstaining.
Mayor Hohenfeldt’s updates included a June Plan Commission meeting, notification of a $45,000 grant to the Cudahy Health Department and a note about Milwaukee County development block grant funding for 2017. The mayor also presented the appointment of Tom Pavlic to the Library Board for a three-year term ending June 30, 2019; the appointment was approved by council.
The council considered two claims resolutions: Resolution No. 7047 allowing the claim of Laekin Lee (approved) and Resolution No. 7048 denying the claim of Paul Szczech (approved). During the general public-comment period residents raised other local concerns including special-assessment questions, dump fees, perceived fund transfers, tree cutting, potholes and a lack of city services. The meeting adjourned at 8:25 P.M.
