Ellsworth mayor sworn in; council elects new president and appoints Russell Allen

Jessica Coates was sworn in and recited the oath to support the constitutions of the United States and the state of Kansas and to faithfully discharge the duties of mayor.
The council moved quickly through procedural business, approving the meeting agenda and the consent agenda by voice vote. The consent agenda included routine maintenance approvals; council members noted a repair to a 15‑year‑old turf sprayer costing more than $5,000.
In new business the council elected Council Member Darcy Hansen as city council president for a term ending Jan. 10, 2028. The motion to elect Hansen was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
To fill a vacant seat on the council, members moved and approved the appointment of Russell Allen to serve the remainder of a term expiring Jan. 10, 2028. Council directed staff to administer Allen’s oath and complete onboarding. The appointment was approved by voice vote.
