Commission approves routine contracts, donations and small grants; accepts landfill and library actions

At its July 21 meeting the Emery County Commission approved several routine but locally significant actions:

- Ratified a $5,000 agreement with the Green River Conservation District to perform weed control in Green River, including treatment of Russian knapweed; county staff signed the contract because the district needed work completed before fiscal‑year end.

- Accepted a bid from Western Metals Recycling LLC for scrap metal at the Inter County landfill at $125 per net ton.

- Approved a request from Utah State University Extension for $1,250 to help cover meals and materials for the 'A Light to Remember' overdose awareness event at Huntington State Park on Aug. 31; USU Extension said the event expects about 250 attendees and will offer Narcan education.

- Voted to provide two hole sponsorships for the Castle Country Fuller Center for Housing golf fundraiser and discussed potential CRA and affordable‑housing funding opportunities.

- Amended the Sept. 16, 2025 meeting minutes to correct the solar project classification, approved an Onyx Maps partnership agreement formalizing a $5,000 donation for trail signage, and approved a $1,550 change order to install handrails at the Cassel Dale branch library for accessibility.

- Moved to send a letter allocating $50,000 of water infrastructure/flood control funding to Castle Valley Special Service District to rehabilitate the Emerytown well in light of low stream flow concerns.

Each item was presented, moved and seconded; votes were recorded as affirmative in the meeting minutes.

Next steps: staff will execute and file contracts and prepare standard administrative resolutions or agreements where required.
