The Waukesha City Plan Commission on Jan. 22 approved a conditional use permit for Elegant Hair LLC to operate a home-based hair salon at 1501 Delafield Street in an RS-3 single-family district. Staff recommended approval with standard conditions and told commissioners any different business at that address would need a new permit.
The staff presentation described plans to convert an attached garage into a salon space with matching siding and to reserve one to two on-site parking spaces. During public comment Eric Payne, an alderman for the district, said he had visited the property and supported the request, saying, “I have no problem at all with it. It’s totally screened from all the neighbors.”
Chair moved approval subject to staff comments; the motion passed unanimously. The commission noted that if the current owner later sells the property or the use changes, a new conditional use permit would be required.
The approval represents a local permitting step; the business must complete any final inspections and necessary permits before opening.
