Cudahy council adopts recodified code, approves contracts, appointments and routine motions

At its June 28 meeting the Cudahy Common Council adopted Ordinance No. 2430, completing a recodification of the city's municipal code, and approved a package of routine and substantive actions including contracts, equipment purchases and appointments.
Ordinance No. 2430: The council adopted the new municipal code by motion of Alderperson Johnson, seconded by Alderperson St. Marie-Boelkow; the roll-call vote carried unanimously. During the public hearing on the recodification, resident Wayne Stenglein asked the council to delay the vote, but the council proceeded to a recorded vote later in the meeting.
Contracts and purchases: The council approved a contract with Motorola Solutions, Inc. to upgrade the city dispatch center in the amount of $212,739.00; the motion carried unanimously. The council also approved the sale of surplus Fire Department thermal imaging equipment and authorized purchase of SCBA equipment for $4,545.00 (purchase motion by Ald. Hollenbeck, second by Ald. Johnson); those votes were recorded as carried unanimously.
Agreements and appointments: Council approved a Preparedness and Health and Safety Service Agreement with the American Red Cross and confirmed Mayor Hohenfeldt's appointment of Tom Pavlic to the Library Board for a three-year term expiring June 30, 2019. Motions carried without recorded opposition.
Licenses and claims: The council granted Temporary Class B liquor licenses and fee waivers to the Cudahy Lions Club for July 4 and the Sweet Applewood Festival (Aug. 26Aug. 28); Ald. Moralez, Ald. Johnson and Ald. St. Marie-Boelkow voted aye while Ald. Hollenbeck and Ald. Litkowiec abstained. The council passed Resolution No. 7047 allowing the claim of Laekin Lee and Resolution No. 7048 denying the claim of Paul Szczech; both carried unanimously.
Mayor's updates and public comment: Mayor John Hohenfeldt reported a $45,000 grant award to the Cudahy Health Department and mentioned Milwaukee County CDBG funding for 2017. In open public comment several residents raised concerns about special assessments, dump fees, perceived fund transfers, tree cutting, potholes and lack of city services. The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
