Committee members reported an inspection of a used municipal truck (2004 model) priced at $28,000 and recommended purchase including transportation/hauling. Committee member (S8) described the vehicle as structurally sound with recent DOT inspection history and a heavy frame and plow configuration suitable for town use. "It was pretty much as good as what you've seen on the pictures," the member said after the inspection.
Members discussed additional costs to bring the vehicle home; one hauling quote was cited at about $1,400. Council debated whether a staff trip to drive the vehicle home would save money but concluded that staff time and operational disruption could offset the savings. The streets budget was noted to have available funds; a member referenced an available $148,000 in the street budget and said the purchase could be funded without a special appropriation.
A motion to purchase the truck including hauling was made by Committee member (S6), seconded, and carried by voice vote. The council instructed staff to coordinate transportation and final logistics and to document the acquisition against the street equipment line.
