The Britton-Hecla School District Board of Education on June 8 approved May meeting minutes, financial reports and a series of line-item budget amendments while discussing next year's preliminary budget.
Business Manager Madisyn Neiber told the board the district should consider increasing the Capital Outlay Levy from $1,500,000 to $2,000,000 to support ongoing operational and facility needs and recommended closely monitoring the Special Education Fund levy and exploring an opt-out to improve long-term stability. The board discussed those options but took no separate recorded vote on a levy increase at the meeting.
The board approved the presented budget amendments across the General Fund and Capital Outlay accounts as recorded in the minutes. The minutes list multiple specific adjustments (General Fund apportionments and means-of-finance line-item changes; Capital Outlay means-of-finance adjustments). The motion to approve the amendments carried with all members present voting aye.
The district's May 2026 ending balances listed in the minutes were: General Fund $1,423,313.27; Capital Outlay $1,822,293.89; Special Education $303,503.08; Food Service $96,794.99; Enterprise $6,070.40; Custodial $130,151.66. The board also approved payroll and claims documented in the minutes, including general fund salaries and benefits.
The board did not adopt a final levy at the meeting; Neiber framed the levy recommendation as a topic for further consideration as the administration develops the 2026'27 budget. The board is scheduled to reconvene on July 13 for its next regular meeting.
