The Chula Board of Alderman on July 23 adopted ordinances to raise municipal utility rates, voting unanimously to increase the sewer charge from $6.00 to $7.00 and to set the monthly trash fee at $18.00, both effective in August 2025.
Geremy Bru moved to adopt Bill No. 2025-11-07-2025, an ordinance establishing new water and sewer rates; Kyle Gramenz seconded, and the motion carried on a recorded vote. Later in the meeting the board adopted Bill No. 2025-12-07-2025 setting the trash rate; motions to adopt were made and seconded in separate roll calls and recorded as carried 4-0. The roll-call lists included Aldermen Benny Simpson, Andy Harbert, Geremy Bru and Kyle Gramenz; clerks Ann Hamilton and Dawn Boyles were present for recordkeeping.
Council members did not debate the specific rate calculations at length during the session. Clerk Ann Hamilton had earlier noted that the trash contractor indicated other communities charge for additional cans; the council discussed the legal path for changing rates, including preparing ordinances and administrative follow-up.
The board also approved a change in regular meeting times to 5:30 p.m. and scheduled a special meeting for Aug. 4 to continue outstanding project work; the board said administrative items such as bank comparisons and grant discussions would be handled at upcoming meetings. The clerk’s office will publish the adopted ordinances and effective dates on the city website and in required notices.
