The council voted to introduce T.P. Ordinance No. 25-20 to acquire ownership of rights-of-way for State Project H.015014, the Stateline Road Bridge over an unnamed creek in Kentwood. Councilman Darrell Sinagra moved to introduce the measure; the motion carried on a roll-call vote with nine YEA votes and one member absent.
The council also introduced T.P. Ordinance No. 25-21 to grant a variance to mobile/manufactured-home placement standards for Dorothy Bridgewater (Assessment #2686708). During the introduction, Dorothy Bridgewater of 44313 Zeno Lane in Hammond spoke about the condition of her home and her need for placement of a mobile home. The ordinance was introduced and a public hearing was set for Aug. 11.
T.P. Ordinance No. 25-22, a requested variance to minor subdivision frontage standards for David Jenkins (Assessment #6210058), was introduced and scheduled for the same hearing. Finally, T.P. Ordinance No. 25-23 would exempt the parish's one-cent sales tax on purchases of firearms, ammunition and hunting supplies during Louisiana's Second Amendment Weekend sales tax holiday Sept. 5–7, 2025; that measure was also introduced and set for Aug. 11.
Each introduction was approved by roll-call vote with the same council members recorded as YEA and Councilmember David Vial noted as absent. The public hearings will be opportunities for residents and stakeholders to comment before any final votes.
The council pulled a separate item to adopt the Section 8 Housing Administrative Plan, noting the adoption needed to be removed from this agenda as required by HUD; that action does not affect the introduced ordinances and will be handled separately.
What happens next: each ordinance will return to the council for the public hearing on Aug. 11, 2025, when the council will receive public input before considering adoption.
