Catch a Ride asks Decatur County for $10,000 to meet federal-match requirement for new transit vehicles

Michelle Bridal, director of Catch a Ride, asked the Decatur County Council for a $10,000 contribution to meet the local-match requirement for a federal transit grant that will buy two small vehicles for county service.
"We provided over 7,700 trips for 132 individual Decatur County residents," Bridal said. She told the council Catch a Ride operates three county routes, provides nonemergency medical transportation when insurance applies, and schedules rides up to 30 days in advance.
Bridal said Catch a Ride's Decatur County budget for 2027 is about $419,000 and that Decatur County Community Foundation and Decatur County United Fund have already contributed funds for the new vehicles. She said the service has not raised fares recently and uses a fuel-card discount and a small county grant to help manage fuel costs.
Council members asked whether fares had been raised because of fuel prices; Bridal said fares have not been increased and that the service budgets conservatively for fuel. The council took no vote on the request at the meeting and asked staff to include the packet in next month's agenda for review.
