Greensburg soup kitchen seeks $15,000 in utility support from Decatur County

Miss Faust, representing Greensburg Community Bread of Life, asked the Decatur County Council for financial help covering utility costs, saying the soup kitchen provided 29,506 meals last year and has rescued more than 3,000,000 pounds of food that otherwise would have been wasted.
"Last year, we've done 29,506 meals," Miss Faust said. "We are seeking 75% of our utilities cost for the year, $15,000. We projected $20,000 for utilities for the year, and I'm already a little bit over that."
She described services that include hot meals three days a week, a shower facility for people preparing for job interviews and outreach to small rural towns via a repurposed school bus. She told the council the organization cannot be fully self-sufficient and relies on community donations and volunteer support.
Council members asked follow-up questions about average usage and outreach; Miss Faust said the soup kitchen reached roughly 1,400 distinct individuals last year and is expanding rural routes.
The council did not vote on a funding request at the meeting; members suggested the item be taken up at a future meeting for formal consideration.
