Committee hears two gubernatorial nominees for Outfitters and Guides Licensing Board

The Senate Resources & Environment Committee on Jan. 26 heard from two gubernatorial nominees for the Outfitters and Guides Licensing Board but recorded no committee vote on either appointment during the meeting.
Kenneth Long of Horseshoe Bend described lifelong Idaho residency and his family's operation, Cascade Raft and Kayak, which runs half-day and full-day rafting trips on the Payette River. Long said he had been a river guide and now handles administration and outfitting; he noted experience racing on the U.S. Canoe Slalom team.
Senators asked Long about access pressures from population growth and about geographic representation on the board. Long said growing use of rivers and other recreation areas was a major challenge for outfitters.
Carl Rey, introduced as living in Boise and in the process of moving to Weiser, described a career with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a biologist, refuge manager and in law enforcement, and said he now owns a cattle ranch. Rey said he served on the Idaho Fish and Game Winter Southwest Winter Feeding Advisory Committee and the Idaho Wolf Depredation Control Board; senators asked about outfitter application processes and allocations of tags.
