Archery club grant contingent on long-term lease is tabled pending clarification of required term

Benton Christensen, representing the archery club, recapped a grant application to the Easton Foundation to fund improvements to the club’s building, including new paint, lighting and a new floor. Christensen said the Easton Foundation requires a public statement from the city guaranteeing a long-term lease as a condition of the grant.
Council discussed the current lease (binding on the city through November 2027), how long the Easton Foundation will require the lease to be extended, whether the building can be sold, the city’s responsibility to provide targets and backstops, and shooting fees. Because the required lease term from the Easton Foundation was not known at the meeting, Councilmember Terry Larson moved and Councilmember Chris Larsen seconded a motion to table the item until Christensen can determine the term the foundation will require; the motion passed unanimously.
No formal lease extension or commitment was made at the meeting; council deferred final action pending confirmation from the Easton Foundation about the grant’s lease-term requirement.
