Council approves Idaho Gem grant application for 'Old Hospital' and backs America 250 commemoration grant

The Preston City Council unanimously approved two resolutions on Sept. 8: Resolution 176 to apply for an Idaho Gem Grant to prepare a master plan for development of the "Old Hospital Property," and Resolution 177 supporting an America 250 in Idaho commemoration and authorizing an application for a small community grant (up to $2,500) to support local events.
Director of City Planning and Land Use Shawn Oliverson said the Idaho Gem Grant would fund planning and infrastructure analysis for repurposing the Old Hospital Property so it can be used for park and recreation purposes. Councilmember Terry Larson moved approval of Resolution 176; Councilmember Chris Larsen seconded and the council voted unanimously.
Oliverson also introduced a second resolution endorsing community efforts tied to the United States semi‑quincentennial. Councilmember Chris Larsen moved approval of Resolution 177, Brent Dodge seconded, and the council approved the measure unanimously. Copies of both resolutions are included with the meeting minutes.
