Knoxville Beer Board reports six underage sales, approves event permits and refers one holder to revocation hearing

The Knoxville Beer Board met July 21 and heard from an enforcement official that a July 14 ABC compliance operation found six sales of alcohol to a minor. The official named the businesses the board was told failed the compliance check and said one sale involved a location that is not permitted with the board.
Board members approved a slate of special-event and regular beer permits. Event approvals included a Sept. 11 tribute concert from Concerts for Our Own (organizer Aaron Snuckles said the event will offer free admission to first responders and plans to donate about $25,000 to the Knoxville Safety Foundation), a German Fest at First Lutheran School (Bridal Howington), an Irish Fest at Immaculate Conception (Sharon Bitzer) and the Saint George Greek Orthodox Grigfest (Mike Nacios). The board routinely approved other venue and catering permits, typically on motions to approve pending final documentation such as certificates of occupancy and health-department approvals.
Members extended a deadline for 808 Music Group (Brian Coakley) to supply outstanding inspections and a liquor license copy, setting the applicant’s review to continue at the Sept. 15 meeting unless staff receives the documents earlier. Several other applicants were approved pending submission of required documents such as LLC articles of organization, health approvals, or surrender of existing permits.
The board also addressed compliance with the city’s seller training (CAST) requirement. Staff reported that a permittee identified in the record as Suttris had not completed the required training since May 23, 2024. On a motion the board voted to refer the matter to a suspension/revocation hearing rather than taking immediate revocation action.
Chair’s procedural reminders stressed that applicants approved “pending final documentation” must deliver completed documents to the business tax office during regular hours to receive a certificate of compliance and that some approvals require surrender of previous permits before issuance of a new permit.
The board adjourned after completing its agenda.
