Hunter council swears in three members; shelter grant extension, culvert requests discussed

The Hunter City Council swore in Brion Christionson, Joyce Schneider and Dixie Sloggett at the start of its Jan. 5, 2026 meeting. Clerk Loura Pohls administered the oath to the newly seated members.

Mayor Brod Nitsch told the council the city needed to file for an extension on a shelter grant and that the council might pursue another grant; no timetable or formal vote on the grant was recorded. Mott Schroeder asked about the size of the concrete pad for a proposed shelter lean-to; no dimensions were provided in the meeting record.

During a round-the-room public-comment period, Stephanie Heina asked to install a culvert on the north side of her house to support a future driveway and carport and raised concerns about graffiti on the old Vero's building. Mark Jensen said he had two 6-inch PVC pipes that could be used as culverts if the city was interested and asked about water service to a new property he had purchased on the north end of town. Mayor Brod Nitsch suggested the city install a new meter for Mr. Jensen; Clerk Loura Pohls was asked to research whether costs could be split.

Earlier in the meeting Council member Ashley Schneinder moved to approve the minutes as read; Brion Christionson seconded and the motion carried. Council member Chad Housar moved to pay the bills as presented; Ashley Schneinder seconded and the motion carried. The council adjourned following those items.
