Gilford says DPW building on track for August occupancy; town reports seasonal hiring challenges

Public Works Director Meghan Theriault told the Board of Selectmen on June 24 that construction of Gilford's new Department of Public Works building is progressing on schedule, with fire cisterns installed, utility hookups next, completed masonry, garage window installation finished and drywall nearing completion. Theriault said painting is planned for late July and interior finishes (ceiling tiles, flooring and doors) are slated for August, with an August occupancy target.
Selectmen thanked Theriault for the update. In his Administrator's Report, Town Administrator Scott Dunn said the town has had no luck hiring seasonal workers for Public Works divisions. Dunn said the town hired a part‑time, year‑round employee to support Building and Grounds for both seasonal duties and custodial services at the new DPW building.
Dunn also provided other operational updates: he concluded franchise renewal negotiations with Breezeline and said a public hearing on that topic will be held July 22; the Kimball Wildlife Forest Committee plans to work with project engineers on a boardwalk to reduce erosion at a dam on a hiking trail, funded primarily from the Kimball Wildlife Forest Trust; Lincoln Park is temporarily closed for walkway construction and expected to reopen mid‑next week; Town Beach remains open and staffed with lifeguards; the Glendale Marine Patrol restroom arsenic signage was replaced and the town is exploring water treatment options; the CIP committee has one vacancy; and the Assessing Department will transition to new Vision software on July 28.
The board did not take action on the DPW construction update; members asked staff to continue coordination and provide occupancy and commissioning updates as work progresses.
