Public Works director outlines five-year maintenance operations plan

Ray listed key figures to show the department’s workload: roughly 109 buildings and structures maintained; more than 400,000 feet of stormwater sewer pipe; about 45,000 feet of ditches; more than 400 fleet assets valued at over $9,000,000; and 35,000 tons of garbage collected by the city last year. He also described a current $2.3 million road-resurfacing project aimed at resurfacing approximately 15–17 miles of roadway.
During Q&A, members asked about the youth project to install small lending-library boxes. Ray said Public Works can build the units and install posts, and that the youth could paint the boxes prior to mounting them at the chosen sites if the council brings units to the department’s main shop.
Next steps: council members will choose two initial lending-library sites from a list of city-owned parks and coordinate timing for painting and installation with Public Works.
