Applicant Carl Petoli told the Sayreville Zoning Board of Adjustment he wants to install an above‑ground pool and expand his backyard deck, including adding a pergola, and asked the board to reduce several setback requirements.
"I'm looking to have an above‑ground pool," Petoli said, explaining he was requesting the side and rear minimum setbacks be reduced from the required dimensions to 6 feet and that the 25‑foot rear setback for a covered deck be reduced to 14 feet to accommodate the pergola and a larger deck.
Board staff confirmed the application required variances for the minimum side and rear setbacks and for the reduced rear setback where the covered pergola would be placed. The board opened the public portion; no one spoke.
A board member moved to approve the application and the motion carried on a roll‑call vote with all voting members present voting yes. Chair said the board will memorialize the approval at its Aug. 26 meeting. Petoli was advised he may pick up his building permit at the construction office after memorialization.
The decision authorizes Petoli to expand an existing deck (he said it is now about 15 feet) and to position an above‑ground pool toward the left‑rear corner of the property, subject to the conditions noted in the memorialization.
