The Soda Springs City Council on June 3 authorized a feasibility study of the Ender’s Building and other city properties and discussed lowering rental fees to encourage more short‑term community use.
Council reviewed a study proposal with a not‑to‑exceed cost of $42,000, to be paid from a previously approved grant. Councilman Mitchell J. Hart moved to grant Mayor Paul Gritton authority to sign the agreement on the city’s behalf, subject to minor edits by legal counsel; Councilman Ryan Carpenter seconded and the motion carried.
During a related discussion, Molly Beseris (working with an unofficial committee) told the council the current $500/day rate discourages short events. Council members suggested alternatives such as hourly rates of $50–$75 or a half‑day rate of about $250, balancing greater public access with staff time and cleaning requirements. Clerk Andrea Haderlie was directed to draft a revised fee schedule for consideration at the next meeting.
The feasibility study contract will be executed after final legal review and minor edits; the study is intended to inform long‑term use, potential rehabilitation costs and programming options for the facility.
