Dustin Miller, director of the Idaho Department of Lands, briefed the House Resources & Conservation Committee on Feb. 25 about the agency's mission, performance measures and wildfire-management strategy. He told the committee that endowment land revenues in 2025 exceeded $90 million (gross) and that 94% of fires were held to less than 10 acres.
Miller described the agency's strategic plan for managing wildland fire and discussed the state's and federal initiatives to increase the pace and scale of forest management. He referenced the President's initiative to expand forest-management activity and the state's response to a Governor's initiative to reflect similar priorities in Idaho.
Committee members followed with detailed questions about employee compensation at the Department of Lands, the agency's role in reviewing mining applications and how the department could expand use of the Good Neighbor Authority to accelerate forest-management projects in partnership with federal agencies. Miller stood for committee questions after his presentation.
