The Kiowa town council approved purchases for the Fire Department, confirmed purchasing procedures for county funds, and assigned department purchasing authority during its Oct. 30 meeting.
The Fire Department presented a list of requested items including an HP multi-function laser printer; three drip torches priced at $225 each; three SCBA masks at $498 each; three 2.5-gallon diesel cans; shirts and hats; and an iPad for the tanker. The U.S. Forest Service agreed to pay for the drip torches, SCBA masks and diesel cans, and the department was asked to inquire whether Pittsburg County would cover the iPad. On a motion by M. Sexton, seconded by T. Horn, the council approved the purchase of items #1 through #6 for the Fire Department not to exceed $4,500.
Separately, the council voted to keep purchasing power for items paid with county funds at Kiowa City Hall. The council also discussed opening a dedicated account for fire-department donation funds; that item was discussed but not voted on. Later in the meeting the council assigned purchasing authority for the Fire Department to Clayton Nichols and Wesley Clark Kelley and for the Maintenance Department to Daniel Dibble and Josh Furr.
The council tabled a separate quote for the ESO 1450 start-up year, which would cover 120 calls, until total cost information is available. No specific timeline for establishing the donation account was set during the meeting.
The approvals carried with four members voting yes (M. Sexton, T.S. Barker, T. Horn and D. Drake); J. Ray was absent.
