Krebs council approves routine minutes, claims, permits and appointments; tables dam work

The Krebs City Council handled routine business and a handful of administrative items at its Nov. 19 meeting while tabling a time-sensitive infrastructure contract until engineering specs are complete.
The council approved minutes from the Sept. 17 and Oct. 15 meetings and approved the claims register after Treasurer Micheal Fulgium said checks would be sent following approval. Mike Kern reviewed the city's financial statement, reporting $729,766.52 in revenue and $687,784.27 in expenses for the four months ending Oct. 31, yielding positive net income of $41,982.25.
The council approved a residential building permit for a 30-by-50 shop at 105 SW 1st, appointed Tyler Basquez to the Krebs Volunteer Fire Department with a one-year probationary period, and authorized use of third-party, licensed reviewers to speed Certificate of Occupancy plan reviews for medical marijuana businesses (the city will pay those reviewers so applicants can get state-required signoffs).
Engineer Stephen Fox inspected the Krebs Lake dam and is drafting specifications to widen and repair the structure; councilmembers tabled imminent-need concrete bids for the dam pending the engineer's updated plans so bids reflect the final scope. Separately, the council approved buying 160 feet of 24-inch drain pipe from Dub Ross Company Inc. for $5,422.40 to replace a damaged pipe contributing to flooding behind a local business.
Councilors also approved multiple 2025 meeting schedules — City Council, Planning & Zoning, Audit & Finance, municipal court dates and the city holiday calendar — and closed the meeting with administrative updates and an adjournment to KUA.
Public comment: resident Gay Bynum Campbell addressed the council seeking additional time to repair and clean up her property at 55 Maple Street, describing health setbacks and repeated break-ins. Council members said she had been granted six months and discussed selling the property as an option; no formal reversal of the extension occurred during the meeting.
The meeting ended with a request that the city remember the late city attorney Pat Laden's family in their prayers.
