Resident urges halt to creek-side clearing on NW 6th Street pending state review

Resident Peri Austin told the Krebs City Council on Aug. 20 she was asking the city to stop further clearing and development near a creek on NW 6th Street until state and county officials investigate.
Austin said the work already performed—clearing trees and moving earth on a sloped lot—raised concerns about setbacks, easements and runoff into the creek. She said Planning and Zoning had been asked to investigate and had not yet reported back. Austin said she had followed permitting procedures for her own build and expects other property owners to do the same.
Larry Coxsey, who discussed investigations and state requirements, told the council that clearing vegetation near a creek typically requires state stormwater permits (he referenced the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality and the Oklahoma Water Resources Board) and that the owner may be in state-level violation if permits were not obtained. Council and staff suggested code enforcement and Planning and Zoning follow up; Pat Layden recommended the acting mayor or staff ask Planning and Zoning for its status report.
What happens next: the resident was advised to contact county and state agencies and Planning and Zoning will look into whether permits were obtained and whether citations are appropriate; the council suggested code enforcement action if state or county authorities confirm violations.
