Council approves 150-foot Allsup’s sign after planning and FAA clearance noted

The Krebs City Council approved Aug. 20 a request to erect a 150-foot freestanding sign for an incoming Allsup’s convenience store at the northeast corner of Highway 69 and Highway 270.
Applicant Mike Leppard, representing Texas Republic Signs, told the council the company surveyed visibility, obtained FAA clearance and had engineering designed for the pole. He said the sign height is intended to provide safe visibility for motorists on the highway approaches. Planning and Zoning had recommended approval.
Council members questioned permitting and safety clearances; Leppard said the installation would be engineered and anchored to prevent failure and that the sign would be located on private property. Councilmember Connie Poole moved to approve the erection of the sign and to welcome Allsup’s to Krebs; Dan Heathcock seconded and the motion passed with Jason Wagnon, Connie Poole and Dan Heathcock voting yes.
What happens next: the applicant will proceed with installation subject to the standard permitting and engineering conditions discussed; Planning and Zoning had reviewed and recommended the request.
