Krebs council renews school resource officer agreement with Krebs Public Schools

The Krebs City Council approved a year-to-year contract with Krebs Public Schools on Aug. 20 to provide a school resource officer while schools are in session.
Police Chief Dennis Cook described the arrangement: the assigned officer will work roughly 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during the school year and return to patrol duties when school is not in session. Chief Cook said the school pays the officer’s salary and that the program includes D.A.R.E. instruction.
Council members discussed the program’s benefits and the officer’s role in the school community. Councilmember Dan Heathcock moved to approve the contract; Jason Wagnon seconded and the motion passed with Wagnon, Poole and Heathcock voting yes.
What happens next: the police department will assign the officer under the terms described; the contract is a standard annual agreement and will be revisited if circumstances change.
