Staff reports major leak on Carl Street, roadwork and hydrant updates

City public-works staff told the council about recent generator maintenance, a repaired service-line leak and a larger ongoing leak on Carl Street, plus street excavation and stoning work and plans to color-code and band fire hydrants for nighttime visibility.
Staff member gave the council a series of public-works updates, saying Everpar completed generator servicing and that he performed major preventive maintenance himself. "They did send me some report back on Friday, but I haven't had a chance to look at them," he said.
He said crews repaired a service-line leak and are investigating a larger break on Carl Street, and cautioned that noisy storm manholes are interfering with acoustic leak-detection equipment. "The storm manhole is too loud for my listening devices," he said, describing how a node was returning misleading readings and making it hard to pinpoint the leak.
The staff member also reported that road crews are excavating, stoning and installing geogrid on streets that lack a subbase and that storm work is imminent in some areas. He noted Woodburn Road may already be stoned in a section, but said most streets will require full work.
On fire hydrants, the staff member said about 60 hydrants already have their data uploaded to Silversmith and that crews will color-code hydrants and add reflective bands to make them visible at night. "They'll go around the barrel of the hydrants," he said, adding that the color will indicate hydrant type and that tops and bottoms will be painted accordingly.
The council did not take formal action on these items; staff said they will continue work and report back on leak location and progress on the street and hydrant projects.
