Carson, chair of the Boyne Falls Public School Board, called the board to order at 6:30 p.m. July 20 in the Board Conference Room. The board approved the printed agenda and then appointed William Cousineau to the vacant board seat by unanimous vote where recorded.
The meeting’s central business included personnel and facilities decisions. The board approved hiring Jake Lee as MS/HS social studies teacher, Carolyn Strong as middle school special education teacher, and Devon Hayden as K–12 physical education teacher. The board also accepted the resignation of fifth-grade teacher Alison Gross. Jessica Mulvaney was appointed board secretary during the meeting.
On facilities and operations, the superintendent reported that carpet replacement work has begun with crews working daily and a completion target of Aug. 19; the district authorized a change order upgrading the flooring finish to luxury vinyl tile (LVT). A playground delivery is scheduled for the first week of August, and the board approved a Payne & Dolan contract to resurface the parking lots with work planned for Aug. 7–10. The board also confirmed district depositories and approved Huntington Bank, the Michigan Liquid Asset Fund (PFM) and Huntington Securities as approved investment institutions. The district’s purchasing-card account currently with BMO will switch to U.S. Bank in August 2026.
In finance actions, the board approved payment of bills totaling: General Fund $83,182.47; Food Service Fund $17,539.51; Special Revenue $9,032.68; and Sinking Fund $63,312.30. The board approved signatures for accounts and named Thrun Law Firm as school attorneys for the 2026–2027 school year. The board also accepted a slate of organizational memberships (MASA, MASB, MSBO and MEMSPA/MASSP).
The board approved ballot language for the Boyne Falls Public School Operating Millage for the November 2026 election. Motions on the agenda were carried by recorded margins (where listed) of either 5–0 or 6–0. The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
The board set its meeting dates and times for the 2026–2027 year and directed administrative follow-up on the parking-lot work and pending bleacher inspection report.
