Smithton schedules July 17 meeting with Farnsworth as zoning items await IDOT review

Village/Zoning Administrator George Liyeos told trustees that Farnsworth remains engaged in modifying the village comprehensive plan and that a meeting with the consultant is scheduled for July 17, 2026 to review changes. The board noted that work on the park master plan will begin shortly.
The Zoning Board reported several active items: Attorney Terry Bruckert is handling HYDAC matters; the Smithton Liquor drainage-easement issue was resolved; Hunter's Point Subdivision requested additional turning-radius details for buses and a connector-road concept for Phase 2; and the special-use permit application for 3011 South Illinois is pending updated entrance improvements on Route 159, including IDOT approval, plus surfacing and stormwater plans.
Trustees were advised that suggestions for updating the planned-development and subdivision application process are being researched and will be referred to the Zoning Board for consideration prior to final approval by the mayor and board.
