Putney manager reports fire department reinstatement, pool repairs and pending grant work

Town Manager Karen Astley reported multiple operational and capital updates to the Selectboard on May 28, including the reinstatement of the Putney Fire Department, a timeline for pool repairs and several pending grants and projects.
Astley said the Putney Fire Department was reinstated on May 24, 2024, and thanked firefighters including Brian Harlow for their work. She said she and others met with the State Fire Safety Division for a second-floor walk-through and that inspectors found no red flags, allowing the town to move forward with completing construction work on the building.
On recreation, Astley said pool contractor Rick Pettit is scheduled to arrive June 5 to repair a leak in main drains; she said the work was estimated to take six days, the pool could be refilled by June 16 and opening day is planned for June 21, barring difficulties.
Astley also reported three grants for engineering and planning of town structures, a pending stream alteration permit for Parkman Wood Road before the project goes to bid, and a gravel pit crushing and blasting RFP to be issued June 2. She said two grants require closeout and reimbursement and that two state grant agreements are still pending. The grand list abstract will be lodged Tuesday after the state completed valuation of utilities; residents with value changes will receive notice and may grieve.
