DV Fiber reports 250 miles complete, 1,000th customer; Putney service date unclear

DV Fiber representatives updated the Putney Selectboard on May 28, reporting about 250 miles of fiber laid and the network's 1,000th subscriber, but they did not give a timeline for when Putney residents can expect service.
Cor Trowbridge, the DV Fiber town representative, said phase one construction was grant-funded and focused on areas with the highest concentrations of under-served residents. He introduced Patyrick Moreland as a DV Fiber director. Trowbridge noted the project has reached roughly 250 miles of fiber and has signed its 1,000th customer systemwide.
When Selectboard member Aileen Tulloch asked who owns fiber once an internet service provider runs it, the response given was that the organization or company that operates the fiber in an area owns that portion; customers must sign up with whichever provider offers service on the line serving their address. Trowbridge said he could not say exactly when Putney would receive service and that other providers have applied for grant funding in some areas.
The board did not vote on any grant or construction action for Putney at the meeting and directed staff to follow up as grant activity and provider decisions evolve.
